Karavali, Malnad: Rain persists, damage incurred

Mangaluru / Udupi / Madikeri: Good rain was experienced throughout karavali and the malnad region of the state on Tuesday and a few areas suffered damage due to the rain. Heavy rains in the Charmadi ghat region has given rise to the fear of possible flooding again. The sea too has turned violent.

Intermittent rain started since the morning throughout DK district. ‘Orange Alert’ had been announced in karavali for a four days since Monday. As the alert will be in effect till Thursday, good rains are expected along the coast, forecast the weather department.

During this period, winds are expected to reach the speeds of 40 – 50 km/hr and hence, the fishermen need to be careful, warned the department.

Kodagu once again fearful of rains

Madikeri: Even while Kodagu district is just facing the death and pain due to the torrential rains that poured down over it in the month of August, once again the fear of facing the rain as emerged.

Continuous rain in normal amounts was reported from Bhagamandala and Talakaveri.

Virajpet taluk which lost 10 lives to landslides has experienced slightly more rain. A retaining wall in the 7^th ward within panchayat limits has collapsed, giving rise to danger. More than 10 families have been relocated to a safer area.

DCM and PWD and social welfare minister Govinda M Karajola will be visiting the district on Sep 4^th to take stock of the damage incurred due to the rain.

Charmadi: Floods feared; temporary bridge washed away

Belthagady: People in the taluk fear possible floods with the amount of rain increasing in the ghat region.

On Monday, Mratyunjaya stram and Netravati rive were flowing at full spate which caused much fear amongst the residents here. Although the water level returned back to its original state on Tuesday, there is fear that the rise in the rain along the ghats might cause flooding.

During the flooding on August 9^th, the connection between Antara and Aranepade was cut-off. Later, the areas were reconnected, but the sudden rise in the water level on Monday, the connection was once again cut-off at around 3:30 pm in the afternoon.

Temporary bridge washed off

The recent floods had washed away the bridge between Anara and its surrounding area and in order to help the resident there, a temporary bridge was created by a team of 25 people belonging to SKSSF with assistance from the locals on Sunday. A big tree which had been brought down by the floods was used and placed across the stream to form a temporary bridge, but all their efforts were washed away by the flood on Monday.

Injured relocated

Charmadi Muguliddaka resident Vinod Gowda, who had broken his leg after falling from a flood in his house needed to be shifted to the hospital. In the backdrop of the rain, the patient as made to sit on a chair which was carried by Praveen  Jagadish, Narayana and others and brought to Kolambe. Meanwhile, another patient identified as Geeta, a resident of Maruvadadi, who was suffering from leg was admitted into a hospital after the local youth carried her across the river and exemplified humanity.
