Mangaluru: Several areas of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts including Mangaluru city experienced heavy rains along with lightning and thunder on Friday, November 23. A few other places received moderate to light rainfall.
Since yesterday, a cloudy weather and chilly climate were seen in south interior areas and coastal belt of the state arising due to the low atmospheric pressure area has been created over the Bay of Bengal and coastal Tamil Nadu.
The drop in atmospheric pressure is expected to cause rainfall in the state for 2-3 days, predicted the meteorological department on Thursday.
Mangaluru city witnessed rain from 8:30 pm onwards. In many places, rainwater directly poured onto the roads, resulting in traffic bottlenecks. Sullia, Puttur, Uppinangady, Subrahmanya, Bantwal, Beltangady and Dharmasthala too got good rainfall.
There was heavy rain with lightning and strong winds reported from Udupi. Areas in Kundapur taluk and Brahmavar got heavy rain while Udupi, Manipal and Karkala taluk got light rain.
The sudden rain was a welcome relief to the people reeling under the hot and humid climate. Many areas within Kasaragod district received good rains.
