Mangaluru: Hattrick hero of Kannada Cinema Shiva Rajkumar said he considers the coastal Karnataka to be a place of immense fortune, a land of the deities.
Shivarajkumar is in town for the promotion of his latest movie ‘Vedha’.
In an exclusive interview with ‘Udayavani’, Shiva Rajkumar reminisced about the close contact he and his father Dr. Rajkumar had with the coastal region. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
How is the upcoming movie “Vedha” different?
This is the first movie by Geetha Production. It is also my 125th movie. I was very happy when I first heard the story. and it is a pleasure to work with Harsha. I have appeared in an old getup and a new getup.
After the success of Bajrangi and Vajrakaya, you collaborated again with Harsha for ‘Vedha’. How does it feel?
Indeed, everyone is curious about that because Harsha brings something new to every movie. Bajrangi 1 and 2, Vajrakaya had different shades. Every movie of his has a new getup and message.
Many Kannada movies are making it big in pan India, the latest being Kantara. What do you think about this?
Indeed, this is a new age for Kannada cinema and an inspiration for new directors. Recent Kannada films have shown that any film can make it big if it innovates.
You have seen the coastal part of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi up close. What is special here?
I have done many films shoots in coastal locations. This is a lucky place for me – a ‘Punya Kshetra’. Karavali is a great place for Appaji (Dr. Rajkumar) too. I have been coming here since Rathasaptami, Midida Shruti, and Aasegobba Meesegobba. People here are good-natured and mild-mannered. The cuisine is also very different.
Your opinion about the Tulu cinema industry…
I have thought about making a Tulu movie. It is our ‘dharma’ to respect both Tulu and Kannada languages. So, if I get that chance in the future I will do it.
‘Kantara’ – a union of Bhakti-Prakriti
Shivraj Kumar says Kantara stands out because it unites devotion and nature. None can predict the success or failure of any movie. but, it is true that the success of Kantara is a huge development for the Kannada film industry.
