Karkala: Statue of Lord Parashurama to be inaugurated today

Karkala: The bronze statue of Lord Parashurama, who is believed to be the creator of Tulunadu, is all set to be dedicated to the public at Umikkal hill in Bailoor here today.

The statue will be inaugurated at the theme park on the hill in a grand event to held at 4 pm on January 27 where prominent personalities will be in attendance.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Minister S. Angara, Anand Singh, and Kota Srinivas Poojary, Chairman of Karnataka Backward Class Commission K. Jayaprakash Hegde, MP B.Y. Raghavendra, MLAs Haladi Srinivas Shetty, K. Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji R. Mendon, B.M. Sukumar Shetty, Manjunath, S.L. Bhojegowda, and Dr. Tejaswini Gowda, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, and actor Rishab Shetty of “Kantara” fame, among others are on the list of attendees.

The statue will be unveiled with 2000 volunteers blowing the Conch shell simultaneously. Various cultural events will also be showcased at the event.

An eco-friendly toilet has been installed in Parasurama theme park will also be inaugurated.

Theme park attracts visitors

With the construction of the Parashurama theme park, the hill has become a center of attraction in the area. Tourists are flocking from near and far for viewing the novelty. Lakhs of people are expected to reach the hill in the next 3 days. There is a sense of festive atmosphere in Bailoor.

In addition to the construction of the statue, a play ‘Parashurama” penned by Shashiraj Kavoor and directed by Dr. Jeevanram Sullia, is being staged across the state by Karkala Yaksha Rangayana.  The play has been successfully performed in Karkala, Sullia, Mangaluru, Thirthahalli, Moodabidri, and Hebri. Many more shows are planned for the next month.
