Stray dog problem is a vexing issue for residents of Karkala

Karkala: With an alarming rise in dog bite cases and accidents involving canines, stray dog menace has become a major concern in many parts of Karkala.

Recently, an elderly woman was mauled to death by a stray dog in Murur, and a young boy was injured after a street dog attacked him.

Since stray packs rule several bylanes and roads in the area, pedestrians are scared to venture out. It has been a problem for several months now and the only solution is to get the stray dogs neutered to curb the stray population.

But the municipal corporation and Gram Panchayat officials claim that they do not have enough funds to neuter the dogs. They claim that they are helpless as they do not receive separate funds from the government for this purpose.

Gurudatt,  Taluk Panchayat Executive officer, Karkala assured that necessary steps will be taken to curb the stray population. Also, as we are on a verge of a financial crisis, at present we are focusing on resolving other important issues.
