Karnataka agrees to release 2.5 tmc water to parched Telangana dist

Bengaluru/Hyderabad: Karnataka has agreed to release 2.50 tmc of water from its Narayanpur reservoir to Jurala in Telangana to meet the drinking water needs of Mahabubnagar region, the Telangana government said Friday.
In view of the water levels substantially coming down in the reservoirs of Mahabubnagar district, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had requested his Karnataka counterpart H D Kumaraswamy for release of water, a release from the CMO said here.
Kumaraswamy telephoned Rao to inform about the decision taken to release water and the latter thanked him, it said.
Both the CMs have expressed their desire that the cordial and friendly relationship between the two states should continue forever, the release said.
Water supply to Jurala would commence Friday evening, it added.
