Karnataka CM Asks for Report on Death of New Born Babies Due to Alleged Negligence in Kolar

Kolar: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked for a detailed report from the state Department of Health and Family Welfare on the media reports on the alleged death of new born babies following negligence by the hospital authorities in Kolar district. Chief Minister’s statement came in the wake of the death of three babies Sri Narasimha Raja Hospital in Kolar since August 22 which has created concern among the public.  

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has issued a clarification on the reports of death of children telecast in some television channels. The clarification by the department stated that three infant deaths since Monday are due to congenital anomaly and low birth weight who were referred from Chintamani.

“We have sufficient staff along with working four paediatricians and no dearth of drugs or equipments. Children born with congenital anomaly and low birth weight carry the risk of mortality. Those cannot be attributed to any negligence without enquiry,” health department said.

Media reports were also stated that as many as 35 new born babies died at Sri Narasimha Raja Hospital in the last three months following malnutrition, alleged negligence of the hospital staff and others.
