Karnataka Govt Signals Green for 10% Hike in Admission Fee at Private Medical Colleges

Bengaluru: Karnataka state government has decided to raise admission fee at private medical colleges in the state by 10% from the present academic year, said Karnataka State Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil speaking after a meeting of medical education department and private medical colleges associations on Wednesday at Vidhana Soudha in the state capital.

The admission to medical colleges in Karnataka will commence after the announcement of Central Board of Secondary Examination Education (CBSE) on cutoff marks to be granted to the state. The admission fee for dental and medical courses has been raised by 10% and the state government will continue to raise the fee for the next three years, the minister said. 

The government hasn’t yet raised the admission fee of medical courses at private medical colleges in Karnataka for the last 4 years and admission fee is less when compared to the medical colleges functioning in neighboring states of Karnataka. The government decided to raise the fee amount following request by the private medical colleges seeking an increase in their admission fee, the minister added. 

Private medical colleges will receive Rs 77,000 as admission fee from the students against last year’s fee of Rs 70000 for a government seat. Meanwhile, the students should pay Rs 6.35 lakh at private medical colleges for a payment seat against last year’s Rs 5.85 lakh.  Meanwhile, there is no change in the fee of government medical colleges from this year and the colleges will continue to collect Rs 16, 000 as admission fee this year also.
