Karnataka polls: Vote counting on May 13; Sec 144 to be imposed in Udupi district

The counting of votes for the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha General Election-2023 will take place on May 13 at Saint Cecilia’s Institute in Brahmagiri Udupi.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the counting of votes and to maintain law and order, Section 144 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 has been enforced in the district from 5 am to midnight on May 13.

The public is prohibited from gathering or moving in groups of 5 persons or more in public places.

Additionally, any kind of public procession, protest march, and public meeting ceremonies and victory procession is prohibited. Bursting of firecrackers during the victory celebration of the counting of election results is also prohibited.

Carrying weapon,or any other article capable of causing physical violence or death and any caustic or explosive materials/fireworks is strictly prohibited. Stone pelting or carrying other weapons is also not allowed in any public area.

However, this order will not apply to any program, meeting, ceremony conducted by or on the orders of the Government.

Events held with the prior approval of the undersigned or the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluk Magistrate, funeral processions, marriage processions, and religious ceremonies are also exempted from this order.

Authorities have requested the public to cooperate with them to maintain law and order, peace, and safety throughout the district during this period.
