
Kasaragod: Pigs to be culled after African Swine Flu detected

Kasaragod: The Kerala Animal Husbandry Department will cull pigs at a private farm in Katukukke in Emmakaje gram Panchayat here where African swine flu was detected.
The death of several pigs at the farm prompted officials to test samples from the pigs which had returned positive for the contagious African swine flu.
The district administration, meanwhile, has taken preventive measures to stop the spread of the viral disease. Officials said that pig slaughter and the sale of pork are banned around a 10 km radius of the farm.
The culling will be carried out scientifically. the area will be decontaminated by the fire department after culling is completed. Moreover, the area will be monitored for the next 4 months.
The rapid response team (RRT) of the animal husbandry department will oversee the culling operation.
