Padubidri: A boy who was severely injured in a road accident on NH 66 in front of Uchila Mahalakshmi Temple, has succumbed to the injuries on Thursday, September 15.
On Wednesday, a person named Prabhakar Kota, a resident of Belagavi along with his son Samarth (14) arrived at Kaup for enrolling his son at a school in Kutyar.
They had boarded an overnight bus and reached Uchila.
After getting down from the bus, they were standing beside the highway, during which, a goods carrier mowed them down.
Due to the impact, Prabhakar died on spot, while Samarth suffered major injuries.
He was rushed to a hospital in Udupi, where he was availing treatment.
Unfortunately, on Thursday (September 15) morning, Samarth breathed his last as he did not respond to the treatment.
Meanwhile, it is learned from the interim investigation report that the goods carrier driver Shekhar handed over the driving seat to a 16-year-old boy who works as a cleaner. The boy drove the truck in a drowsy condition, which led to this horrific accident.
The police sources also said that the boy had informed Shekhar that he was feeling sleepy, just before 20 minutes of the accident.
