KMC, Mangalore team wins PROBE 2019

Manipal: Vaishnavi Ballal and Madhur Khullar from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore won the 9th South Zone Inter-collegiate Microbiology quiz competition, PROBE 2019, organized by the Department of Microbiology, Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC), Manipal Campus for the undergraduate medical students here last week. Fourteen medical college teams of the state took part in the competition.

Father Muller’s Medical College, Mangalore team of Anil D’Souza and Shah Nawaz came second and the third prize was won by Ashray S Patel and Bhavyashree Balaji of MVJ Medical College and Research Hospital Bangalore.

The event is primarily organized with an idea of encouraging learning, evoke interest and also to expand the knowledge levels of the students to the varying spectrum of microbes, the diseases they cause, their impact on the community health and recent trends in Microbiology.

It also aims at fostering team work, interaction, camaraderie, a community of learners and the sportsman spirit among students. Above all, it stands differently from other programs of its kind as it promotes learning through fun, which in turn facilitates interest in the subject among the undergraduate medical students.
