Bengaluru: Deputy chief minister and Karnataka’s Covid Task Force chief, Ashwath Narayan on Friday said that Covaxin manufacturer Bharat Biotech Ltd is setting up a vaccine manufacturing unit in the Malur Industrial Area in Kolar district

Narayan said that Malur is an ideal spot for the establishment of the unit as it is closer to Bengaluru and has very good connectivity including a railway line

The government has already given all necessary approvals and the company is currently taking all administrative steps and the civil works too have begun, he added

He further said that all the necessary cooperation will be given if Serum Institute of India based in Pune, which produces the Covishield vaccine or any other companies come forward to establish their units in the state.

Ashwath Narayan said the government is working towards establishing the best medical infrastructure in rural areas to tackle the second wave of pandemic. There should be at least 100-beds in all the assembly constituencies and it also must have oxygenated and ICU beds

Also, as per Niti Aayog’s recent announcement,  40 crore doses of vaccines will be produced in the country by August this year. The availability of vaccines will improve by June-July. Till now, the country has administered 19 crore doses of vaccines, he opined

He said that the state was also receiving aid and assistance from the corporate sector from their CSR funds and donations are being received through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Centre too is helping the state in all possible ways
