Bengaluru: The doubt on the future of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Mysuru has been cleared as the University Grants commission (UGC) has decided to give it affiliation from this academic year. UGC is likely to allow the varsity to admit students and run courses for the academic year 2018-19 soon. According to sources, the decision was taken after a detailed discussion at the UGC meeting held on Thursday.
“The commission has taken a positive decision. The minutes of the meeting will be sent to the HRD Ministry for the concurrence. UGC can then send an official communication to KSOU following which the varsity can issue notification for admissions,” informed an official.
“UGC is likely to bring amendments to Open and Distance Learning Regulations 2017, making rules for universities offering distance programmes stricter,” he added.
“We are confident of getting permission because we have submitted all necessary documents and compliance reports. Even the interface meeting with UGC officials was positive,” said Professor Shivalingaiah, vice-chancellor of KSOU. However, KSOU is yet to receive information about the decision by UGC.
