Kundapura: In a tragic incident, a construction worker was killed on the spot and another injured when a concrete slab of an under-construction house suddenly collapsed near here on Wednesday.
The construction site was located near Sirsi Marikamba Temple in Kotathattu Padukere.
The deceased has been identified as Saligrama Gendekere resident, Manjunatha (36), who worked as a mason. He suffered extensive head injuries and was crushed to death at the spot, sources said.
Another worker Chetan Poojary (28) also sustained injuries to a leg and was admitted to the hospital.
Unscientific work alleged:
The mishap took place at an under-construction house of a person named Rajashekhar Hande. The concrete slab measuring approximately 30 feet long was constructed without any pillar or other support.
When the scaffolding was being removed, the entire slab along with a row of stones of the wall detached and fell on the head of Manjunatha. Falling debris also injured Chetan’s leg who was nearby, sources said.
Manjunath was rushed to Manipal Hospital but was declared brought dead on arrival.
Unscientific work is being alleged as the cause of the tragedy.
Poor family:
The deceased, Manjunatha, is survived by his father, mother, wife, and daughter. His father is seriously ill, sources said. Now, the family is in dire straights as the sole breadwinner of the family lost his life.
Kota police have registered a case against the owner, engineer, and centering contractors of the house.
