Kundapur: In a tragic incident, a student on his way to the college was crushed under the wheels of the private bus he was travelling on.
The deceased has been identified as Sudeep (20), a resident of Katbelthur near Hemmadi. He was a final year BCom student at Koteshwara Kageri College.
On Saturday morning, Sudeep had boarded the private bus that was on its way to Kundapura from Sagar. As the bus was full, he was standing on the footboard. The bus stopped at Hemmadi and passengers were offloaded and re-boarded. The bus started moving again but stopped suddenly to drop a woman who could not get down, during which Sudeep slipped and fell onto the road.
As the bus only had an exit at the front, Sudeep was run over by the front wheels of the bus and later died on the spot.
Locals said that there is a huge rush during morning and evening hours as all educational institutions begin at the same time. Students, from Hemmadi and Tallur, are forced to travel in dangerous conditions on buses, often dangling from the footboards to reach schools and colleges on time.
