Belthangady: Nanyappa Goudar, a 74-year-old resident of Kodi in Macchin village in the taluk here has single-handedly repaired a mud road in the village in three months.
More than 1 kilometre long stretch of the road had deteriorated.
Goudar started with the cutting of tree branches that had extended over the roads. Then he built a trench to cut off the flow of rainwater over the road and flattened the road.
Without any mechanical help, he brought the stones to fill the cracks in the roadside ditches.
The almost 100 days of Goudar’s labour saved the gram panchayat approximately Rs 1 lakh in reconstruction expenses.
In appreciation of Goudar’s selfless service, the gram panchayat awarded him one month’s monetary assistance.
“Nanyappa Goudar’s service in the development of the gram panchayat road is commendable. Under MNREGA, Rs 5,000 assistance will be provided to him,” said Gourishankar, Panchayat Development Officer.
