Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: From release of Kashmiri version of ‘Vaishnav Jan’ to 100-day campaign for safe water supply in schools; Here’s a list of events scheduled for the day

India celebrates the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Gujarat’s Porbandar. Mahatma Gandhi is also known as Bapu or Father of the Nation.

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday (Gandhi Jayanti) as the International Day of Nonviolence

Here are a list of events scheduled for the day

A Kashmiri version of the popular ‘bhajan; “Vaishnav Jan” is being released to spread the message of peace that has eluded the region for the past 30 years.

Activist Kusum Koul Vyas, who collaborated with popular Kashmiri singer Gulzar Ahmad Ganei and writer Shabaaz Hakbaari, wants to release it on the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Vaishwik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Summit on Friday at 6:30 pm.

It is a collaborative initiative by S&T and Academic Organisations of India to enable deliberations on thought process, practices and R&D culture with a problem solving approach for well defined objectives.

The VAIBHAV initiative aims to bring out the comprehensive roadmap to leverage the expertise and knowledge of global Indian researcher for solving emerging challenges. By bringing the Indian Overseas and Resident academicians/scientists together a structure of association will be evolved.

The National Jal Jeevan Mission will launch a 100-day campaign this Gandhi Jayanti to ensure safe water supply in schools and anganwadi centres across the country
