Mangaluru: In a recent court ruling here, a 46-year-old man was sentenced to three years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a four-year-old child.

The convicted person has been identified as Vinod of Maroli.

According to the charge sheet, the incident took place in May 2017 when the parents had left their child at a neighbor’s house while they went to work. Vinod, who lived in the same locality, took advantage of the situation and took the child to his house and tried to sexually assault the child.

The child’s screams caught the attention of neighbors who rushed to Vinod’s house and discovered the heinous act. A case was registered at Kankanady police station and Inspector Ravi Naik conducted the investigation and submitted the charge sheet to the court.

The Mangaluru Additional Sessions Court and FTSC 2 (POCSO) Court Judge K.M. Radhakrishna found Vinod guilty and ordered him to serve three years in prison and pay a fine of Rs. 50,000. Additionally, if he fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional four months in prison.

The verdict was delivered on March 4, and Special Public Prosecutor Venkataramana Swamy C. represented the government.
