Mangaluru: Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal was threatened by a caller on TV, who said he would hit her if she talked in public. He also dared Ballal to send her daughter in public.
Ballal was participating in a discussion on moral policing in Karnataka and had questioned right-wing activists arrested for harassing medical students returning from a beach on September 26.
In a viral video, the pro-Hindu right-wing activists were seen heckling and harassing a group of MBBS students.
According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday evening when six MBBS students were driving back from Malpe Beach. The activists stopped their car at Surathkal tollgate and questioned the women for ‘being in the company of Muslim youngsters’.
Traffic inspector Sharif, who was at the spot, intervened and stopped the activists from harming the students.
Lavanya said that the threats began on September 26 following a social media post where she spoke in the Tulu language discussing the same incident.
