K R Pete: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped and killed by her neighbour in Bukanakere village here.

The parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the Mandya police that their next-door neighbour named Paramesh (46) had repeatedly sexually assaulted their daughter over the last 5 to 6 months. The accused used to visit their house when the girl was alone in the house and forced himself on her. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she told about the abuse with anyone, they said.

It was later found that the girl had become pregnant due to the sexual assault. The accused barged into their house killed her by hanging her from the ceiling and fled from the spot, the complaint alleges.

As soon as the news broke, activists of the Karnataka Arundatuyar Mahasabha led by its president R Krishna and other civil labourers staged a protest in front of the Mandya District collectors office demanding the immediate arrest of the accused under the POCSO Act. They also demanded a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the aggrieved family.

Meanwhile, police said they have arrested Pramesh and produced him before the court. He has been remanded to judicial custody for further questioning.
