Padil: A Miyawaki forest with more than 1,000 trees and plants will be set up near Padil railway underpass on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway 75.

“In a Miyawaki forest, a lot of plants are grown in a small space. We have also grown plants in some other places, but this is the first attempt to grow a Miyawaki forest beside a highway. This place was a dumping yard-like area. We have cleaned and prepared the space available on both sides of the railway underpass for the forest,” said environment activist Jeet Milan Roach who is overseeing the project.

The forest will have more than 110 native varieties of plants with most of them being medicinal plants.

Mangaluru city Rotary Club will be responsible for the planting and upkeep of the plants and trees.
