Mangaluru: Kambala buffaloes “Rocket Bolla” and “Dhoni” of Bollagoduttu Satish Shetty set a new record on Saturday in the Kanthabare-Budabare Kambala held at Aikal in Mangaluru.
The buffaloes raced by Bynduru’s Vishwanath ran 100 metres in 9.15 seconds.
In 2020, Srinivas Gowda had set a record by covering the race in 9.55 seconds when calculated for 100 metes. Later, Akkeri Suresh Shetty clocked 9.37 seconds and Irvattur Ananda 9.57 seconds in the same kambala here.
Byndoor Vishwanath has now set a record by covering the distance of 142.5 meters with Bolla and Dhoni in just 11.44 seconds. If the speed is calculated for 100 meters, then he could have covered it in 9.15 seconds.
For the past few years, Bollagoduttu Satish Shetty’s buffaloes have been performing record-breaking races in kambala’s senior category. His buffalo Dhoni was paired with Kale and both covered the race in 9.37 seconds in a previous kambala.
Chenna
Another superstar kambala buffalo “Chenna” who has acquired the highest number of medals in the folk sport was honoured at the kambala here.
Chenna, owned by Sukumar Shetty, was awarded a silver chain for his achievements.
