Mangaluru: Elderly woman cheated of Rs 60 lakhs in land deal

Mangaluru: An elderly woman was allegedly cheated of about Rs 60 lakhs by forging her property documents, a complaint in the CEN police station said.
Based on the complaint an FIR has been registered against Udupi residents – Ashok Kumar, Reshma Vasudeva Nayak, and Rama Poojary.
The victim, Christine E J Gonsalves (84), returned from Bengaluru due to ill health and has been residing in Bajpe. She had told Rama Poojary of her desire to sell her 77-cents property in Mooda Thonse village in Udupi.
Rama Poojary introduced the prospective buyers, Ashok Kumar and Reshma, to the old lady, who struck a deal for the sale of land at Rs 2.27 lakh per cents. A formal agreement to complete the deal within 6 months was signed between the parties on March 3.
However, after some time, Ashok and Reshma approached Christine with the request to delay the sale citing financial difficulties. They got prepared a sale deed for 40 cents of land and promised to buy the rest after registration of the said land.
The fraud came to light after a relative of Christine inquired about the land sale. As per the complaint, an application for conversion and transfer of complete 77 cents of the land parcel using forged documents.
