Election awareness by SVEEP

Mangaluru: With the aim to spread awareness regarding elections on behalf of the DK district SVEEP committee, the district administration, ZP, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and the Youth Empowerment and Sport Department have organized an 18 km marathon on March 31st.

The marathon will commence at 7 am in the morning from Mangala Playground and will be conducted in two divisions. A 6 km long marathon will be conducted for those beneath the age of 16 and those above the age of 16 will participate in the 18 kms long marathon. A walk towards election has also been organized for senior citizens and the general public. The students of all schools and colleges, voluntary organization and the general public are requested to participate in large numbers in this event, informed district SVEEP committee president and ZP CEO Dr R Selvamani speaking at the press meet on Tuesday.

Marathon route…

Speaking at the meet MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said, for participants beneath the age of 16, the marathon route will begin from Mangala playground  via Mannagudda road, New Chitra, Car Street, Mangaluru Central Market, Hampankatta road, PVS circle, Ballal Bhag, Lal Bhag, turn in front of  Divya Deep and finish back at the playground.

For participants above the age of 16, the marathon will commence at Mangala playground and pass via Mannagudda road, New Chitra, Car Street, Sharavu temple, Karnad Sadashiva Rao road, Nav Bharath Circle, PVS, Selma Arcade, Kadri Temple road, Bejai, u-turn at Lal Bhag, Pancham Comples, Kapikad, Dadala Kadu, Urwa Store, Ashoknagar, Urwa Market, Ladyhill and conclude at Mangala stadium.

The walk for election will commence from Mangala stadium and proceed via Mannagaudda, Ballal Bhag, Lal Bhag and back to Mangala Stadium. The victors will be felicitated with cash prizes.

Those wishing to participate in the event must provide their name and address to DK Youth Empowerment and Sport Deputy Director by March 29th (email: [email protected]).

Specialty of the 18 kms

The marathon has been organized with two important aims. The idea behind the selection of 18 kms is to spread awareness regarding the voting date on April 18 and also the eligibility to cast ones vote is at the age of 18, informed Dr R Selvamani.
