Bengaluru: The elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bengaluru, scheduled to be held on September 27, have now been postponed to October 1.
After postponing the election BBMP Regional Commissioner Harsh Gupta informed that the standing committee’s term comes to an end in December and the council, councillors and election and BBMP officials were of the opinion that it was no point holding elections twice, therefore they have decided to postpone the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections and advance the standing committee elections.
The new date was finalised after taking permission from the election commission.
The mayoral elections are being seen as a crucial test for all three major parties -BJP, Congress and JD(S)- especially the coalition partners who are holding down the fort in the civic body after the Congress-JD(S) government was toppled by the BJP.
