Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old man who walked a grueling 2,000km for 12 days from Bengaluru to reach his village in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh died from a snake bite, after he stepped into a field to wash up
The deceased has been identified as Salman Khan. He had come to Bengaluru last year to earn a living and was working at a construction site in Banashankari along with many others from Gonda.
After the lockdown was imposed in the country their contractor didn’t pay them a salary. They then tried to get on a train, but after four days of long waits outside police stations, humiliation, and caning, the 10 of them decided to walk home. On May 12 they embarked on their journey home on foot.
The men walked 2000km to reach Lucknow -exhausted, hungry, and feet covered in blisters- where they no longer had the energy to dodge cops. They were then taken to quarantine at a school in Srinagar Babaganj for a few days and finally on May 26 Salman’s friend dropped him home.
His mother, who had been waiting anxiously for the youngest of her five children to return was very happy to see his son return back home. After meeting all the family members Salman went to a sugarcane field nearby to wash up, where he was bitten by a snake.
After one hour his family member who went to check on him found him dead an hour later. Following his death, his mother went into shock.
