Mangaluru: Over 400 migrant workers from West Bengal were left stranded on Thursday as they gathered there on the basis of rumours about running of train service to their hometown especially West Bengal by authorities.
The labourers working in industries and the special economic zone had gathered at Jokatte near Surathkal after the news that special buses would drop them to Mangalore Central Railway station.
As per sources, a few of them who gathered there received calls from police and officials of district administration stating that the train to West Bengal was canceled.
Apparently, many had vacated their rented premises hoping to return their native places. Democratic Youth Federation of India state president Muneer Katipalla and Thokur gram panchayat member Aboobakker Bava arranged food and temporary stay for the travelers.
