Miscreants open fake WhatsApp account in Udupi DC’s name; seek money

Udupi: The Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, Dr. Vidyakumari, has lodged a complaint about the creation of a fraudulent WhatsApp account under her name. In her complaint lodged with the Udupi Police, she cited reports of unauthorized messages in her name soliciting money from individuals.
In an official statement posted on her verified Facebook account, Dr. Vidyakumari highlighted the prevalence of fake accounts utilizing various online platforms for monetary gain.
Expressing concern over the misuse of her identity, she residents to be vigilant and urged them to report such incidents to the local authorities.
Regarding the fraudulent account, Dr. Vidyakumari clarified, “The miscreants used my name, but the associated mobile number does not belong to me. Furthermore, a photograph of the Shimoga District Collector was used for my account.”
The perpetrators targeted some tehsildars, soliciting funds through these deceptive messages, she added.
