Udupi: Kota Shirnivas Poojari will be BJP’s first candidate for Legislative Council elections of Local Authorities Constituency from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, informed Udupi district BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak at a press meet.
The selection of the second candidate will be decided after discussions at the district core committee meeting, he added.
Shrinivas Poojari’s BJP candidacy will be officially announced in three to four days. BJP won’t be supporting any independent candidate. In case a second candidate is not fielded, efforts will be made to cast all the preference votes for the first candidate, Nayak said.
No proposal to reduce bus fares
Suresh Nayak who is also the general secretary of the Canara Bus Operators’ Association, said that there is no proposal to reduce bus fares in the backdrop of a reduction in fuel prices. “Bus fares have not increased much when prices of petroleum products were rising. When diesel prices reach Rs 75 – 80 per litre bus fares may be reduced. Running the business will be difficult if they are reduced now,” he said.
Pramod is welcome if he desires
Talking about the rumours the Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj joining BJP in the past few months, Nayak said, “He (Madhwaraj) is welcome if he accepts the principles and doctrines of the party. However, the issue will have to be discussed with local activists and the party leaders will take a final decision.” Nobody can join the party all of a sudden, he added. t the same time,
