Mangaluru: A person has approached the police claiming to be the rightful owner of the bundles of cash found at Pumpwell a few days ago.
The person reportedly told Kandkanady Police that he was a betelnut trader and had lost Rs 10 lakhs in cash he was carrying with him.
It is learnt that the police have directed the individual to approach the court to settle the matter.
It may be recalled that on November 26, bundles of currency notes were found near the Pumpwell bus stand by Shivaraj and Tukaram, locals of the area. They had shared the cash between them. The matter came to light after a member of the public notified the police about it.
Shivaraj was detained by police and cash worth Rs 49,000 was recovered from him. A few days later, Tukaram’s family had handed over Rs 2.99 lakhs to the police. However, the source of the cash found was not known. There was confusion about the exact amount of cash found.
With the trader’s claims, the case has taken a new turn.
