M’luru: Family suffers severe case of food poisoning, mistakenly claimed to be suicide attempt!

Mangaluru: Police put an end to speculations of a mass suicide attempt by a family. It was a case of food poisoning mistakenly reported to be a suicide attempt, police said on Wednesday.

Aravind Rao (52), Prabhavati (45),  Sourabh (20) and Prateek (18) of Jeppu Bappal were found vomiting profusely in their home. The relatives had broken the door of the house to rescue the family members. Their health was so critical that they were admitted to the ICU. It was presumed to be a case of intentional poisoning.

Rumours soon started circulating that the family had attempted a mass suicide.

City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar clarified that the family had a severe bout of food poisoning. The family of four had consumed ice cream and a dessert made from lentils, which may have turned bad, he said allaying the speculations.

The doctors treating the family have said that they are out of danger, the police commissioner added.
