Mangaluru: A youth has been arrested on the allegations of creating a fake Instagram account and posting hateful, communally provocative messages on it.
Based on the complaint filed at the Mangluru Cybercrime Police Station, the accused Mohammed Azmal (20) from Belthangadi was arrested, police said.
The accused had created a fake account with the handle ‘Mari_Gudi_5’ on Instagram after the Hijab row verdict was delivered by the Karnataka High Court, police said.
The matter came to light after a student filed a complaint with the police about a fake Instagram account with his photograph. An obituary of the student was also posted on the Instagram account. A threatening message was also posted insinuating murder.
The aggrieved student had also received threats that he would be “killed publically” in a similar fashion as the “Harsha murder” in Shivamogga, police added.
