A tragic accident involving a collision between a private bus and a bike near Handelu, Todar has led to widespread outrage among students in Moodbidri.

The accident claimed the life of Karthik Acharya, a student of Alvas College. Following the incident a protest was organized by students from various colleges.

The protest was held on Tuesday evening at Vidyagiri Junction, amd it aimed to condemn the alleged negligence of the bus driver and shed light on the larger issue of road safety in the region.

Reportedly, over the past year, more than ten students have lost their lives in Mudubidire due to the carelessness and negligence of private bus drivers.
The protesting students emphasized the need to reduce speeds in areas with heavy traffic and suggested the installation of speed bumps on the highway between Alwas and Vidyagiri.

They further urged the authorities to install dividers near schools and colleges to enhance safety measures for students.

Responding to their demands, Police Circle Inspector Niranjan assured the students that he would bring their concerns to the attention of the transport authorities, pledging to take appropriate action.

When questioned about cases involving disobedience of road rules and high-speed driving, Niranjan revealed that more than one hundred and fifty cases had been registered and addressed over the past year.

A large number of students gathered peacefully for the protest, allowing the smooth movement of vehicles in the presence of the police. Fortunately, no untoward incidents were reported.

In a show of solidarity and continued demand for justice, another protest will be held on June 7 at 8:30 am at Edapadav Junction.
