
MRPL: Work accident claims contract workers life

Mangaluru: A man lost his life after a pipe accidentally fell on his head during the ongoing works in the third phase plant of MRPL on Saturday.
The deceased is identified as Vakil Kumar (37), a resident of Jokatte, originally hailing from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. He was working for Akash Engineering which was the contracting agency at the third phase plant.
Apparently, Mr Kumar was indulged in welding work when a huge pipe fell on his head at around 12:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but to no avail.
Postmortem has been conducted but it is unclear if his mortal remains have been taken to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh or if it was still in Surathkal.
It is learnt that the contract company has assured to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Mr Kumar.
DYFI has demanded a thorough probe into the incident alleging that the death was caused due to negligence on the part of the contract company.
