Mudigere (Chikkamagaluru): Four people tragically died in a horrific road accident at Banakal on Friday afternoon.
According to initial reports, a collision occurred between a Mescom lorry and an Omni van. After this, an Alto car also hit the Omni from the back.
A family that had gone to Dharmasthala was returning to Chitradurga on the Omni van and the Alto car. Ahead of Kottigehara, near Banakal village on the national highway, the Omni car collided with the oncoming Mescom lorry. The Alto car, which was behind the Omni, also collided with the Omni.
Three people in the Omni died on the spot. Another person died while being taken to the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Hampayya (65), Manjayya (60), Prema (58), and Prabhakar (45) from Channapatna near Chikjajur in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district.
According to police, nine people were travelling in the Omni car and seven in the Alto car. The injured from the Alto car have been taken to a hospital in Mangaluru. A total of 12 people were injured in this accident.
The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of the Mudigere government hospital. The Omni car is completely wrecked.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Banakal police station.
