A 45-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Hulemane Kundur village of Mudigere taluk here.
The deceased identified as Shobha Amritha had gone to the forest to fetch fodder for her cattle when she was attacked by the wild elephant.
Locals said that the herd of wild elephants has created a sense of panic as they often wander into human habitation.
It is alleged that though the forest department officials had been informed of the issue they failed to take any measures to drive the elephants away. They have blamed the forest department officials for Shobha’s death.
