Muzrai temple priests may get pension, insurance benefits soon

Bengaluru: The State government is mulling to provide social security benefits such as pensions and life and health insurance cover to the more than 50,000 priests working in the temples under the Muzrai department.
The government is discussing the plans to provide health insurance to the priests and their families of upto Rs 5 lakhs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and life insurance of upto Rs 7 lakhs.
Authorities have already held talks with the Life Insurance Corporation of India regarding this.
Presently, the priests and other temple staff are paid salaries by the administration of the temples which are classed under different categories.
