‘Not every woman is like this’: BJP’s CT Ravi on Karnataka Health minister’s ‘modern women’ remark

Bengaluru: BJP General Secretary CT Ravi has responded to Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar’s statement in which he said that modern Indian women want to be alone and are not inclined to give birth to a child even after marriage.

Ravi said, “Some women, who are educated and working particularly in IT field, have this type of mindset. Every woman is not like this. It is happening because of western influence and micro families. In India, we still have faith in family unlike countries such as USA & UK.”

Karnataka Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar on Sunday, October 10, had claimed that modern Indian women want to stay single, are unwilling to give birth even after marriage, and desire children by surrogacy.

The remarks had invoked the ire of women’s organizations, which condemned the over-generalized, misogynistic statement, stressing that women had every right to decide whether to have a child or not.

Congress state chief DK Shivakumar also slammed BJP’s regressive mentality. He claimed that while BJP was tooting its own horn for women empowerment, its actual mindset was displayed by its minister.

In a tweet, DKS said, “They make big promises about women empowerment, while this is what the actual mindset is. Regressive, bashing women for their choices. All masks eventually come off”
