Hubballi: The Mudhol Hound breed of dogs from Karnataka may soon find a place in the elite National Security Guards’ (NSG), dog squads.
The NSG provides security to the president, prime minister and other dignitaries. Last year a Parliamentary panel had suggested authorities that they should explore such a possibility. In a recent report on the working conditions of paramilitary forces, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs said that the canines deployed along with the forces play a very crucial role.
Speaking with this regard, Mudhol Hounds’ Research and Information Centre director Dr Mahesh Dodmani said, “The concerned officials had demanded four puppies. Senior NSG officers will come from New Delhi to take these puppies.”
It may be recalled that the Mudhol Hounds have already been a part of Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
