One crore vaccine for foot-and-mouth disease: Minister Prabhu Chauhan

Bengaluru: State Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan has said that under the National Livestock Mission, around one crore vaccine doses for foot-and-mouth disease will be made available soon.

After meeting the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala on Thursday, he said, “I’ve requested the union minister to sanction funds towards tackling cattle and animal diseases and provide necessary FMD vaccines in time. I have also requested to sanction Rs. 51 crores towards fodder management”.

“Responding positively, the union minister has directed the concerned officials to provide the vaccine twice a year. The Centre has assured of training the farmers on cattle care through the Karnataka Veterinary Council, workshop on detecting rabies in animals, and training veterinary doctors on different surgical procedures”, he added.

Meanwhile, Prabhu Chauhan has requested the farmers not panic and call helpline number 1962. He has also requested them to dial 8277100200 for more information on the disease.
