Padmashri awardee Gamak exponent H R Keshavamurthy passes away

Shivamogga: Renowned Gamak Vidwan Padmashri awardee H R Keshavamurthy (88) passes away on Wednesday, December 21.

He was suffering from age-related ailments for the past three days and was availing treatment for it at home.

Meanwhile, MP B Y Raghavendra has tweeted his condolence.

He wrote, “I’m deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Padmashri awardee Gamak Vidwan Shri Hosahalli R Keshavamurthy. May God grant his soul eternal peace and give strength to his family to bear the loss.”

Keshavamurthy was born on February 22, 1934, in Hosahalli. From the age of 16, he began singing Gamak and mastering it. He has been conferred the title “Shataragi”, for having composed 100 different ragas.

He was recently conferred the prestigious Padmashri Award in Delhi by former President of India Ramnath Kovind.
