Padubidri: Local police rescued an elderly man who was wandering aimlessly on the roadside near Hejamady. The man, who is reportedly suffering from dementia, was handed over to his son who had traveled to the district from Bengaluru.

The elderly man reportedly had boarded a bus to Udupi from Bengaluru’s Kepegowda bus stop at Majestic on December 3. He had reached Udupi on Sunday morning, lost his way, and reached Hejamady. Police who noticed him roaming on the road brought him to the police station.

The man had lost his memory and was found in a confused state. After a lot of prodding, he revealed his name was  Shrinivas (69), a retired BSNL employee from Bengaluru. He later recollected his son’s name and phone number. It came to light that Shrinivas had lost the phone that he carried with him.

Meanwhile, his son, Shripathy, had already left for Udupi on a bike. Shrinivas had made a call to his son after reaching an unfamiliar location. During the phone call, a passerby informed Shripathy that his father had reached Udupi.

After reaching Udupi, Sripthy was searching for his father to no avail. Police later contacted Shripathy and informed him about his father and handed him over to his care.
