Bengaluru: A woman has been arrested for theft of gold ornaments belonging to few devotees visiting the Kukke Subrahmanya temple.
The woman identified as Mamata (38) from Andhra Pradesh was taken into custody after police personnel noticed her moving around suspiciously.
Upon questioning it was revealed that she along with her husband had recently visited Kukke Subrahmanya temple to offer prayers to the deity. While they were having food at a nearby hotel, they saw that some devotees seated at the neighboring table had kept their bag on the table and gone away to wash their hands. Seizing this opportunity, the couple decamped with the bag and later found it to be containing gold ornaments.
After returning to Bengaluru, the duo pledged some of the gold and took an apartment for rent. On August 25 they were visiting a jeweller shop to sell the remaining gold when the police sighted them.
Mamata’s husband meanwhile escaped from the spot and a search is on to nab him.
The police found stolen gold worth Rs 20.2 lac from Mamata’s possession.
