Udupi: Even though the Navy has confirmed the sinking of the deep sea trawler Suvarna Tribhuja, the reason behind its sinking remains elusive. But, the then Udupi SP Laxamn B Nimbaragi had sent a letter containing few questions to the commanding officer at Karwar base on Jan 16th 2019, to which the commanding officer had replied back on Jan 21st. these answers have given rise to many confusions.

Information to the fishermen group

To a question, if information regarding the damage sustained by the ship was shared with the fishermen?’ the answer was “The information regarding a boat or some object hitting the hull of the ship beneath the water line was shared at 10:30 am in Dec 15th. But, the boatmen confirmed that no such incident had occurred there on the dawn of Dec 15th or on the previous day,” replied the official.

Police-navy QNA

Who gave the information on the boat missing in Goa?

The reply to the question “Was the information given by the Coastal Security Police (CSP) shared with the navy or the coast guard? Was an operation directed?”  was “As per the information provided by the CSP on Dec 22nd, Suvarna Tribhuja lost all contact in Goa area on Dec 16th at 1 am in the morning. INS Kochi suffered damage in Sindhudurg region on Dec 15th. There is no connection between the two incidents. Both are separate incidents.”

The answer specifies that the information regarding the sudden loss of contact with the boat in Goa was provided to the navy by CSP. This has become a reason for confusion.

It is true a cargo vessel sailed by

Question regarding the sailing of a cargo ship the answer was, “A cargo ship sailed on the same day as INS Kochi in the same region.” This proves the sailing of the cargo ship here.

Now SP James has again written a letter asking for a report. The response letter might put an end to the confusion.

Damage was suffered a the depth of 6.5mt

To a question regarding the damage suffered by INS Kochi the answer was, “The vessel suffered damage on Dec 15th. When an inspection was carried out in this regard it was found that the SONAR dome of INS Kochi which lies beneath the water line at the depth of 6.5mt had suffered damage. No other part of the vessel suffered any other damage,” replied the navy.
