Police seize illegal sand mining sites

Mangaluru: Bajpe police and officials of the mines and geology department seized 853 truckloads of sand extracted illegally here on Tuesday.

After gaining credible information, the team raided sites in Badagulipady village, Narlapadavu, Mogaru village and near Moodu Ferar church and confiscated 313, 233 and 307 truckloads of sand respectively valuing up to Rs 35 lac.

A special team formed for the purpose led by assistant commissioner of police, Gopalakrishna Nayak and inspectors, Parashivamurthy and K Srinivas, guided by city police commissioner, Vipul Kumar, and deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, conducted this operation. Rajashekhar, inspector of the cyber cell police station, geologist, B K Murthy, village accountants, Muttappa and Dinesh, central crime branch police sub-inspector, Kabbalraj, and others were present.
