The Centre on Wednesday announced that the precautionary dose of Covid vaccine for healthcare, frontline workers, and citizens above 60 years with comorbidities will be same as the first 2 doses.
“Those who received Covishield will get a third dose of Covishield and those who got Covaxin will get a third shot of Covaxin,” it said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on December 25 announced that the country would begin administering ‘precautionary doses’ to those above the age of 60 and suffering from co-morbidities from January 10, 2022.
The government had also announced that the ‘precautionary dose’ could only be taken nine months after the administration of the second dose, the government statement said.
Eligibility for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as recorded in the Co-WIN system, which will send an SMS for availing the precaution dose when it becomes due, the guidelines stated.
