Sasihitlu: Three years have passed since Kadike bridge was constructed and inaugurated for use. The bridge leads to Sasihitlu Munda beach located within Haleyangadi GP limits and finally, attempts are being made for the installation of street lights there.

The bridge is the primary connection to Sasihitlu when approached via Padupanambur-Hogegudde and Haleyangandi Kadike routes. However, the 300 M long bridge does not have any street lamps and one is compelled to cross the bridge surrounded by darkness during the night. This issue has been taken up at Haleyangadi GP meeting by the villagers.

The locals had also requested Sasihitlu beach development committee on multiple occasions regarding this. The lack of street lights is causing much problem to devotees wanting to participate at special pooja’s conducted at a temple nearby. The strong lights emitted by vehicles used by tourists passing through this route only amplify the trouble being faced by pedestrians here. The locals have already complained to the cops regarding the presence of miscreants here during the night. Considering all these problems, a project has been created for the installation of hi-mast lights on either side of the bridge.

A project for the installation of two hi-mast street lights, one from Kadike Bhandara house to the bridge and the other after the bridge till the road going towards the temple has been created and the cost of Rs 2.20 lakh per mast will be borne through a grant from the Panchayath and MLC Ivan D’souza respectively – H Vasant Bernard , President, Beach Development Committee

Since the bridge has been constructed by the PWD, I have informed the engineers to prepare the estimation for the installation of streetlights along the bridge. Action will be taken for the installation of the street lights from the department itself – MLA Umanath Kotiyan
