Puttur: The mother of an Indian-origin man jailed in Malaysia for drug trafficking wants the police to rescue her son and bring him back to India.

The complainant, Meenakshi, a resident of Uruvalu village, Beltangady taluk claims that her son has been betrayed by his employers.

Her son Amit Karinja was hired by Pradeep Rai and Prakhyat Rai to carry electronic goods to Malaysia. On March 2, 2013, they handed over a parcel claiming that it contained electronic items but instead the parcel contained drugs.

Police in Malaysia arrested him for drug trafficking. Meenakshi said that the employers asked Amit’s family to keep mum on the issue and that it is their responsibility to bring him back.

But after the court sentenced Amit, they threatened Amit’s family that if they reveal the details to anyone else, they will kill Amit.

After which they switched off their mobile phones and went underground, Meenakshi has urged the police officials to take strict action against them.
