Puttur: In a shocking incident, a woman was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight in the front yard of her residence in Kampa in Mundoor here on January 17. After stabbing the woman, the assailant fled from the spot, sources said.
The victim has been identified as Jayashree (23), daughter of the late Guruva.
The attack took place at around 11.30 AM when the girl was alone at the house. The assailant reportedly stabbed the victim thrice, after which she ran towards the farm where her mother was working, crying for help. With the help from locals, the girl was later shifted to Puttur Government Hospital but she breathed her last on the way there.
It is learned that the unnamed assailant was a relative of the girl. Police sources said that prima facie spurned love seems to be the motive behind the crime.
It is said that the youth was in love with the victim and pestered the victim to reciprocate. However, the girl rejected his advances. As per the preliminary investigation, it seems to be a crime of revenge, police sources added.
